Advice from Hertfordshire Constabulary on cuckooing

Hertfordshire Constabulary is committed to tackling drug crime and protecting vulnerable people.

Cuckooing is the term used when drug dealers take over the premises of vulnerable people to deal or store drugs. While it is still relatively uncommon in Hertfordshire, we are asking for your help to identify possible signs of cuckooing in your area. For more information see here

Wymondley Parish Scarecrow Festival – 21 to 28 August 2021

The Parish Council is to hold it’s first Scarecrow Festival from 21 to 28 August.

We are hoping this will be a Parish wide community event, attracting participants of all ages, with residents able to make their own scarecrow and then follow a walking trail(s) to view the scarecrows displayed in front gardens and in the Community Garden in Graveley Road, Great Wymondley.

So why not join in and start designing your scarecrow – any theme, big or small. You can find lots of ideas on the internet, including from scarecrow festivals held in other parishes. The entry form and terms and conditions of the event can be viewed here.

The event is intended to be COVID-19 secure – depending on the restrictions (if any) in place at the time, residents will be able to make their scarecrow at home and then walk around the Parish with their own households (and/ or friends and family, if permitted) independently at a time of their choosing.

Update on proposed housing development “West of Stevenage”

Please see below a link to open a newsletter prepared by the Developers’ agents regarding a proposed housing development site “West of Stevenage”, to be called Potters Green.
The developers say that they are intending to make a planning application in December and are currently requesting comments and feedback on their Vision and Masterplan .  The requirement for social distancing means they are unable to present their ideas at a local venue in person. Instead, a virtual public exhibition  can be accessed on the website www.pottersgreen.co.uk (see https://www.jbplanning.com/potters-green/) . We are informed that the opportunity to provide comments and ask questions has been extended to 2 October 2020.

Survey on Property Flood Resilience Measures

The Parish Council have been contacted by a company called Risk & Policy Analysts who are carrying out a study for the Environment Agency on resilience to flooding. They are currently collecting views and opinions and are interested in questions such as:

  • Are property owners and occupiers aware of Property Flood Resilience measures?
  • Do property owners and occupiers have any measures installed (e.g. flood doors)?
  • Are there any issues that are hindering owners and occupiers from taking up Property Flood Resilience?

They are using an internet-based survey to collect opinions on Property Flood Resilience from owners and occupiers. The survey can be accessed via: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/ownersandoccupiers/

They have asked us to pass the invitation on to property owners and occupiers in Wymondley Parish, so that they can find out what residents think about Property Flood Resilience.

The study is part of wider work on increasing resilience to flooding (see https://www.gov.uk/government/news/29-million-extra-funding-to-boost-action-on-making-homes-more-resilient-to-floods for more information).
